Day 1 (Wednesday 20th April) After a not so early breakfast where I was confronted by the cheeky green bikini babe in the1st pic we boarded the Legend of the Seas. Boarding was not a problem as was collecting Ian and Julie from the airport.  I dropped the hire car back and they dropped me back at the cruise terminal down the road at Hamilton. Wow there’s a lot to learn about cruising, especially as a group. Dining times and which table, tours to book, just finding your way around this huge ship where all the passageways look alike and signage is limited.  We’re right at the very end of that passageway you see in the 3rd picture. But we had a good day.  We cast off and sailed from Brisbane around 1800 (6pm).

While looking around the ship we noticed the “Art Auction” and standing out for us was three Romero Britto 3D paintings. As I have 1 Britto in our portfolio I mentioned this to the Art Manager who promptly flipped out over the fact that we owned an Artists Proof.  To cut a long story short we bought not just the 3 Britto’s but 2 Warner Bros LE prints for Joy’s room at home.  I won’t mention the price as it hurts but they ARE a great investment.

On the 2nd morning (Thursday) I had to fight myself to get up and go to the gym. Most of the day apart from the Art Auction mentioned above was a day of discovery.  It is a huge ship though the regular ‘cruisers’ say differently.  This evening was the first of 3 formal nights where suit and tie were required for dinner in the main dining hall.  So far the meals here are magnificent. I must continue hitting the gym if I don’t want to end up a blimp.

Today (day 3 -Friday 22nd April) we have reached our first port of call at Airlie Beach. Being locals to this area we didn’t race off with the early tourists but sauntered off later for lunch at the Sailing Club.  By 1600we were back on board and here I am now hurrying to get this blog out before we get out of reception range.

We hope you have enjoyed this first entry of our journey. Keep an eye open for more as we travel to Hong Kong, Penang, India and more.  See you back in Australia in October.

BTW If you don’t see a new entry here it’s probably because we’re out of internet range.

Garry & Shane.
