I could barely force myself to get out of bed to go to the gym so instead I hit the pool for hydrotherapy and hot spa. My knees were sore again from Darwin. Little did I know this was a precursor to an injury later in the day.
Entertainment on the ship is much and varied. In the morning we attended a lecture by a cartographer on “The Myths and Legends of Terra Australis”. It was a very interesting talk starting with Ptolemy through to Matthew Flinders & Captain Cook. He spoke on how maths and helped charts & maps to evolve.
After lunch Shane went off to a “Hairdo thingy” (I’m a bloke. What do I know of these things?) That’s when disaster hit.
I took myself up to the pool for a poolside movie (which ironically I’d gotten wrong because it was in the theatre) at 1300. While waiting for the movie to start I went to sit on one of those sun lounges. Needing to turn to my right I lifted my right foot and put it on the lounge and pivoted on my left leg to sit down. Remember I had my right knee replaced in surgery recently. Anyhow that’s when the pain hit me. My left (good) knee exploded in pain. I dragged myself down to our suite to wait for Shane and by 1500 I was in a wheelchair headed for sickbay. The Doctor doesn’t think I’ve broken any bones thanks to an X-ray but we will now be spending our day in Bali at the hospital getting an MRI to check for tissue damage.
The upside of this is I got to meet the best looking Doctor I’ve ever seen. I am thinking of breaking the other knee to meet her again. Wow, what a stunner!
