Last night both Shane & I had a rough night’s sleep for our first night in our new Condo apartment. Despite being 17 floors up the street noise is still there and as we’re in Asia a normal day starts and ends late. Added to the cacophony is an often repeated explosions of fireworks which look spectacular from our perch up here at Penang’s Times Square. Then to add insult to injury there is the wailing from the megaphones of the nearby mosques to remind us we’re in Malaysia.
Being awake at odd hours though does give one some opportunities otherwise missed. (Get your mind out of the gutter.) I took this photo at 0315 in the morning as the full moon tried valiantly to pierce the clouds. I wouldn’t have minded the short period of stirring if I hadn’t been awoken again at 0530 by that bloody cat being strangled over the mosque’s loudspeaker. I suppose I had better get used to it.
We got up and had breakfast around 1000 before wandering to the pool for an hour or two. The water was refreshingly cool and very empty. Such a large pool and less than 8 people there.
For the rest of the day we just sorted out more of our possessions and around 1600 went downstairs to the mall to find a decent coffee shop. Helen will be pleased to know that the “Bread Baker” shop we decided against yesterday (opposite “Boston Shop” where we had lunch) has sensational coffee and the macaroons were pretty good too.
I’m typing this out early today (because I can). We’ll soon disappear down to the mall again to eat (no one cooks at home here) then retire for an early night.
Life is sweet here in Penang. Miss you all.
