Shane & I set off to Birch Times Square to confirm our residency at the towers. Ian, Julie, Col & Helen went down to Chowrasta Bazaar Markets. The plan was to meet for lunch at Via Pre, the Italian restaurant that Shane & I discovered last year. Well things went smoothly for us and we now have full access to BTS. I can add more pics later as time progresses but for now here’s the pool. Our unit is on the far end of the tower you can see on the 17th floor.
We headed to Via Pre for lunch and when no-one showed up a half hour after scheduled we started to wonder where they all were. Sadly Julie had taken a tumble in a bus and had badly injured herself. She slipped and landed on her back splitting her head open, bruising her arm and breaking a vertebrae low in her back. From what we were told help came from all directions and the bus driver was almost in shock. In what we are finding is normal for Penang the help and concern of the locals was overwhelming. The bus quickly diverted to the depot where more help was forthcoming and then an ambulance was called to take her to a hospital for medical care. All this happened before lunch. It is now 10pm and they have just gotten home. Julie is tentative in her steps but we’ll tell in the morning how she really is. We wish her well.
Anyway, the lunch Shane & I had was brilliant. Via Pre is still every bit as good as we remember from last year. It is an authentic Italian delicatessen and restaurant and the food is to die for. But I still disagree with Shane who reckons their pizzas are the best while I say they are the second best (my home cooked, woodfired, pizzas are unbeatable). You can see in the photos how you can purchase gourmet deli foods and also notice they have various events most nights (several starting at 10pm).
So its getting late and after too much excitement I need sleep. We move to our new unit tomorrow so I will sign off now.
Cheers
Garry
P.S. Tomorrow I will possibly start a new blog thread to go with our new life in Penang.
