G’day as we say here in Australia. This blog page is my amateur attempt to stay in contact with my family and friends as we travel the world in our retirement. When I say ‘we’ I mean my wife, Shane and I (Garry). That’s us in the photos below on a trip to Port Douglas, Far North Queensland.

As I’m getting more proficient with blogging this site is developing. It started in April 2016 when Shane retired and we went for an extended holiday. It started with a cruise with 4 friends before we had a week in Hong Kong followed by a week (with our friends) in Penang. Our mates headed back to Australia while Shane & I stayed on in Beautiful Penang, “The Pearl Of The Orient”.
At that time we were sharing a condominium (or ‘unit’ as we say in Oz) in Penang with a new friend from New Zealand. We planned to spend much of the year in Penang and the rest back in Australia which we did. In the meantime we will continue to use Penang as a base to travel across Asia because its so much cheaper to live here and to fly from here.
A few weeks after our Aussie mates left Penang Shane and I headed to India for a month to see some wild Tigers and of course the Taj Mahal. We were successful in catching both.
Due to constant pain from an injury I picked up on our second day out of Australia we came back home (Townsville, North Queensland) for medical checks. On the way back we decided to stay for a few days in Bali and now that will be our halfway stopover to break up the long flight to and from Malaysia.
Anyway, we went back to Penang in mid October 2016 which meant expanding this blog to cover each trip as an individual thread. After a great few months back in Penang we shot over to Bali to have Xmas with friends and have a good time on Lembongon Island. This was a fantastic stay but as we were about to leave our Son and his family joined us in Bali so we came back to Townsville in Feb 2017.
The only reason (besides seeing our beautiful family) we returned to the ‘Ville was to renovate our house, sell it and travel some more. So here we are back in Penang again. It is February 2018, the house is sold and we have a month here to relax. This will be the new thread I am about to start.
Following our month here we’re hoping to spend the rest of 2018 doing a road trip across the USA with side trips to Canada/Mexico and who knows where. But that’s a future thread.
