My apologies for the slow speed in posting this but we have been really busy enjoying ourselves. However now that we’re established in a hotel in Sanur, Bali for 4 weeks I might be able to catch up (if I can find some decent Wi-Fi).

Anyway, We have left Penang as I said but this posting is about our last week or so there.  It was a sad/happy time. We didn’t want to leave but we knew we had to but before we did we had a couple of nights out.

This first night Shane and myself, in company with our friend, Erica, from our condo block decided to head up to Penang Hill at sunset and drop in on Kek Lok Si which we had noticed from our bedroom window was lit up for Christmas.  Kek Lok Si if you’ve been reading my blog is a gorgeous big temple about 8 kms from us (see here for more on KLS volitans.net.au/…/kek-lok-si-temple-largest-buddhist-temple-se-asia )

So on to the funicular train for the exhilarating ride to the top of the hill. Once there it was a bit hazy but if you look at where I’m pointing on the wall photo then back on the pic before you can see Times Square where we’ve been living for most of the year. On the way from the top train station to the coffee house we ran into some fat guy in red (and a guy who insisted on being in our photo – no idea who he was) before settling in to watch Georgetown as it lit up.

An hour or so and a gazillion photos later we got a photo of KLS before zooming back down the hill to ground level. This journey is great at daytime but going downwards at night it’s a real buzz. Once on the bottom we hopped into a Grab Car and got the driver to deviate on the way home so we could get a few shots of KLS at night. WOW!  No photo could do this sight justice. At daytime it is awe inspiring. At night it is overpowering. Keep in mind the main statue in the temple is over 12 storeys high!

Finally we arrived back at Times Square to find they’d finished the exterior for the newest addition to the complex, a haunted house attraction. The scenery here never stops changing.  Put Penang at Christmas on your bucket list, it’s fantastic as you’ll see here and in the next posting (if I can get decent internet).
