Unless something memorable happens before we fly out from Penang International Airport tomorrow this should be my last post before we leave.  You may have noticed several new features are being added to the blog.  As I promised in my first page some 95 posts ago as I learn how to blog better I will try to add some features for your interest.  In this blog I am going to try adding a ‘slider’.  That’s a banner with various pictures in it that change automatically.  Fingers crossed and my apologies if it doesn’t work.

This first batch of photos were taken on top of the highest building on Penang, Komtar. There is an observation deck on the 65th floor and an open deck on the 68th.  From here you can see all of the north east corner of Penang where 90% of the people live. The 3rd – 7th pic is a quick series starting from when we got out of the lift till we did the full circle.  They start looking NW over Gurney, west over Kek Lok Si, south down the coast past the two bridges over the Strait of Malacca, East to the mainland and Butterworth finally north over the World Heritage Listed city of Georgetown.

The next 8 are all indoors on the 65th floor.  In the 3 pics after the photo of Gama, (For Becky, there the supermart you couldn’t find.) you might notice wires, walkways and obstructions.  That’s for thrillseekers that harness themselves up OUTSIDE the building and do the obstacle course 65 floors over the city.  Then there’s 4 pics of “The Rainbow (glass floor) Walk” which juts out over the streets below followed by general pics as lovely sunsets over Penang Hill gave way to night.  The last two photo’s are so our kids can see where we stay when in Penang.  Times Square where we spent most of 2016 was great except for the stupid body corporate who made life difficult for short term renters. But Mansion One, halfway between Gurney and Georgetown has been terrific.

Well that wraps up our stay in Penang.  Now for some recommendations and praises.  Ladies, if you want your jewellry altered, reset or just cleaned at one third the price Australia the we highly recommend Mr De Almeida of Crown Jewellers at 121 King St.  Shane also had a new pair of prescription glasses made at Focus Point in Gurney Paragon Shopping Centre and couldn’t be happier.  Chinese New Year has been exhausting but absolutely brilliant.  From Kek Lok Si Temple being lit up to Hokkein New Year at the Clan Jetties we have had a ball.  The food of course is out of this world.  Our unit/condo at Mansion One is lovely despite the lousy kitchen fit out (if the landlord of this unit fixes that it would be unbeatable value in Penang).  Where else do you get a 2 bedroom condo located in the centre of the ‘action’ for $2000 AUD for a month (~$70/day)?  Langkawi – wow!  What a fantastic time we had there again.  Special thanks to Celia and Danny who were great mates to us and helped us enormously (sorry again about the cactus).

Well the slider seems to be working above. Phew!

There are way too many highs to mention them all.  I just hope those who followed the blog enjoyed it.  If so then keep watching for more.  If things go to plan we’ll be off to the USA for the rest of 2018 for one huge road trip in about 3 – 4 weeks.

Cheers

Garry & Shane
