Charlotte North Carolina is a very new, modern looking city. This is no more self-evident than in the first photos of “Metalmorphis” the huge shiny modern statue of a head. Built in sections it rotates wholly and in layers. Very impressive. In contrast we headed from there to “Frew’s Folly”, an 1815 Federation Tripartite Home which is slowly being restored by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take photos inside the building but I can tell you it was amazing. Some of the artefacts were over 200 years old including the original wallpaper in the children’s bedroom on the top floor. After a thorough inspection and a wander through the delightful gardens our next stop was the CBD.
Our GPS pointed us to a lovely park next to Charlotte’s huge baseball stadium. From the park we were able to take some photos of the skyline and as you can see from the photos nothing looks to be any more than a few years old. It is almost as though they have demolished the old buildings and rebuilt new. Children were playing in the park ducking in and out of the waterfall and playing by the gardens.
The next day Shane and I went for a drive to a ‘Peruvian Fest’ we’d seen advertised. Apart from the native dancing we shouldn’t have bothered. On the way back to our RV Park we drove by a theme park called Carowinds. This looks to be a fun place that has all types of activities. It is so complete you can even stay at the included accommodation there. One look at all the massive roller coasters convinced us that it wasn’t for us. To finish up the day these photos of Carowinds was taken from the largest Camping and Outdoors store we have ever seen. It is at least 3 times bigger than any Bunnings I have been to. Naturally at that size they stock everything but the impressive part is the natural setting displays they have set up through the store. Taxidermed animals are there labelled museum style no doubt so hunters know what they are shooting with their automatic military style rifles. In a show of steely will power we departed Cabelo’s without me buying a 19’ Tahoe boat complete with tandem axle trailer and 175hp Mercury outboard for $28,805 that I just need desperately. (Note I am considering actually buying one of these and importing it to Australia. Will still be a fraction of the Australian price.)
So with that I’ll wrap up this post. If I still can’t get internet tonight I’ll probably be posting this with a second post on our stay on the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains where Shane introduced me to a “Mile High Swinging Venue” but you’ll have to wait for that salacious post.
This is weird, my desk top comes up with the post “Doin’ the Charleston Waltz” yet my laptop doesn’t, must be Telstra…………Okay I reckon you could do with a spare 5.7 hemi, I have storage available in my Colorado and can pick it up along with the boat from Brissie, easy, peasy, for a mate I go that bit extra…….a Sabre from Arizona would be nice as well, need a bit car trailer though…..
Gee, thanks Ian. I knew I could count on you! I’ll start buying now! Anything in particular you think I should get for you, er me? LOL
I’d be looking at a container and slowly filling it up as you travel around, boat sounds like a good start, receipt with purchase date should be able to cut back taxes when it arrives in AUS, actually just buy it, pack, wrap and send, of course as a good old mate I would drive all the way to BNE to collect it and hold in safe keeping, provide it with maintenance at Tin Can Bay, just keep things running each week so it doesn’t go stale…….thats what mates are for….you could add some nice rods and reels as well………
