I have started this post a few days before Christmas Day. We will be having a final family get together before Shane and I head back to Wichita to continue our USA tour on December 29th. As readers of this blog will know since May 2018 we have toured 11000 miles by car over the south east of the USA (and this doesn’t include our Panama Canal Cruise from LA to Florida to start the tour).
We have visited 11 of the 48 mainland states and will this year aim to do the south western states in our RAM v8 and I-Go caravan. Speaking of which we may be starting the year by upsizing to a 5th wheeler for a bit more space. Watch this blog for details as they happen. (Post Script; Looks like we sold the caravan today (Jan 3rd). Going to the RV Show tomorrow and will be looking for a 5th wheeler there.)
This year I am hoping to learn to be a bit more interactive and effective with the blog and this is where you can help.
If you have any suggestions for me to improve this blog please feel free to add a comment to the post.
Anyway it is now January 2nd and we are back with Gary and Sharyl in their home at Wichita which they have allowed us to make our home. We can’t thank them enough for their hospitality and friendship.
The trip from Australia to Kansas was horrific. From the time we left Adrian’s unit in Townsville to the time we stepped into the house at Wichita we had been travelling for 32 hours. We were buggered. To rub salt into the wound at Dallas our plane was delayed 3 times, the gate was changed 3 times then eventually the flight was cancelled. Luckily they were able to squeeze us onto the next flight.
We had a day’s rest before a group of friends arrived at Gary and Sharyl’s for a New Years Eve gathering. On New Year’s Day Shane and I slept till 10am and even then we were zombies for most of the day.
When we left Townsville it was around 33′ C ( or 91′ F). In Wichita it is around freezing point or 0’C / 32’F. This has necessitated a quick trip to Walmart to buy some cold weather clothes. My traditional shorts, polo shirt and sandals just doesn’t cut it here.
As this is the first gallery of 2019 it is mostly some (old) pics from home. However it starts with a photo from our family Xmas dinner a fortnight ago. It was a great day to have everyone there and so much food we almost burst. There are some good photos of Joy and Sonny but there are others too. One of my faves is that of Karen, Adrian, Joy and myself where for the first time we were all at the same ANZAC Day Parade. Sonny as you can see is growing fast. There is also a group of 4 shots from when Adrian, Lin & Joy were in China and Lin and Joy wore some traditional clothes for a photo shoot. Moving on there is a good shot of our entire family including Lin’s Dad. Finally the last two photos I took a few hours ago. Check out the ice on our car! We ain’t in the tropics anymore Toto.
So that’s it for our first post of the new year. I hope you enjoy it and continue to watch for more issues as we travel across the SW of the USA.
Cheers from Garry and Shane.
Loved the photos of all the family and enjoyed reading the blog. Safe travels you two.
Mate, I can’t understand what’s happened to that boat. They set off ages ago. It was pea green and crewed by an Owl and a Pussycat.
I’ll be following your travels again this year, colour scheme is better, easier to read the writing..have fun which I know you will….no sign of boat yet ????
